Arab Lab supplies SERVA electrophoresis systems, reagents and biochemicals to laboratories in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. SERVA covers protein and nucleic acid separation end to end, from sample preparation through gels, buffers and stains to the instruments that run them.
SERVA was founded in 1953 in Heidelberg, a major centre of the life sciences, by the chemist Dr. Nikolaus Grubhofer to supply research laboratories with fine biochemical reagents. Its first catalogue, in 1961, listed around 450 products.
From the 1970s SERVA developed its own electrophoresis and chromatography reagents. After periods within Boehringer Ingelheim, Novex and Invitrogen, a management buy-out in July 2002 made it independent again. In July 2025 it joined LICORbio as a LICORbio brand, and it remains based in Heidelberg.
SERVA supplies research laboratories in academia and industry through a global distribution network. Precast gels for isoelectric focusing, carrier ampholytes and other specialities are still produced in-house, and the company is certified to ISO 9001:2015.
